DPS Telecom Provides Support For NEC 21SV Remotes

FRESNO, CA - Nov. 18, 2002 -- DPS Telecom, a leading developer of network alarm monitoring solutions, announced today that it has updated its IAM-5 Intelligent Alarm Mediator to provide support for NEC 21SV remote telemetry units.

DPS Telecom has designed a new software module for the IAM-5 that supports alarm reports from the NEC 21SV. Alarm databases created for the 21SV's monitoring software, the 21GTX Fault Management System, can be transferred to the IAM-5 with an available database conversion utility.

Former NEC clients can now upgrade to the IAM-5 without sacrificing their investment in remote telemetry units. This comes as welcome news to companies who were facing the choice of using legacy equipment for years to come or paying the high costs of completely replacing their network monitoring system.

Throwing out existing remote telemetry is not just a waste of thousands or even millions of dollars; it's a potential threat to essential equipment. Re-engineering a network monitoring system takes trouble, expense, and worst of all, downtime - downtime that can mean threats to network integrity go undetected. Users who upgrade to IAM-5 will be able to keep their network monitoring running intact.

Keeping legacy equipment indefinitely is no solution either. A legacy monitoring system is a frozen system that cannot expand to accommodate the growth of your network. Upgrading to the IAM-5 gives 21SV users a path for migrating to newer remote telemetry units at a pace that's right for their needs and budget. DPS Telecom's state-of-the-art remote telemetry units can be gradually introduced into existing networks with no loss of function and no downtime.

The IAM-5 doesn't just work with 21SV, it works better. The IAM-5 talks directly to 21SV remotes, bypassing hard master units. This simplifies network design and eliminates a potential failure point.

Users will also get the advantages of the IAM-5's superior functionality. The IAM-5 is a multi-leg-polling master with sophisticated support for derived alarms and controls, nuisance alarm handling, and other advanced features.

Best of all, the IAM-5 ships with DPS Telecom's first-class customer support, which includes a two-year warranty and free technical support. And upgrading to the IAM-5 is a no-risk proposition - like all of DPS Telecom's products, the IAM-5 is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

This isn't the first time DPS Telecom has provided support for other companies' legacy equipment. When Lucent Technologies phased out its General Telemetry Processor in 1998, AT&T turned to DPS Telecom. AT&T now exclusively uses DPS Telecom's Network Telemetry Processor.

"We never leave a client out in the cold," said DPS Telecom President Bob Berry. "Our one goal is to provide our clients with the best, most cost-effective network visibility, and we are always willing to support our clients' legacy equipment."
